Community Tech Tip: Share Your World on Instagram

You asked, we listened. You asked for more information on how you can help spread the word about your experience. So, we’re offering regular tech tips. Each tech tip shares a free and unique social way to share your story and experience the stories of others. This week, we’re covering Instagram, a service that enables users to tell their story through photography. 

Instagram is a fun and quirky way to share your life with friends through a series of pictures. Snap a photo with your mobile phone, then choose a filter to transform the image into a memory to keep around forever.

1. Download and Register
First, download the Instagram App onto your smartphone. Once you’ve downloaded and open the app, you’ll be prompted to create an account. After you create your account, you’ll be photodirected to the screen below.

2. Choose or Take Your Photo
To get started taking your first picture, hit the middle icon on the toolbar at the bottom of the screen. Or, you can select a photo from your photo library.

3. Change It Up with Filters + the Droplet Tool
Once you’re happy with the picture, you can enhance it by applying a filter or other effects that are available. Below are a few examples of the number of filters to choose from.

  • Crop or change the angle of your photo.
  • Pick a filter for your photo.
  • Use the tilt-shift feature (the water drop icon) to focus on a specific area of the photo. Also, check out these great tips for the tilt-shift feature.

4. Share with the world!
Once you have your photo looking the way you’d like, click next to go to the ‘Share’ page. Here, you can select which social photo 2network to share the photo on, tag people, and even add a location to the photo. Hit the ‘Share’ button at the bottom and you’re all set.

With a number of community events coming up such as this summer’s Ear Community picnics, it will be great to share photos with the rest of the community.

4. Connect with Us and Others
Be sure to follow us on Instagram, so we can follow you too! We’re also are updating with new photos every week. You can find more of your finds by touching the discover button, which resembles a compass, on your home screen.
